CHAPTER 7
Gina
As Bones and I headed up the driveway, we talked about some of the highlights of his record bike ride. We reached bay four of the garage, which was empty. Estelle was out with the Hog for her version of the Bergen County Demolition Derby.
I turned to Bones. “I’ll run up to my room to get your clothes and meet you in the bathroom off the kitchen so you can change. Then we’ll head up to Command Central to watch the show!”
Bones gave me a thumbs up.
As I walked up to the house, I looked back at him, thinking again of how he really looked too skinny. Estelle kept a drawer of clothes for Bones in my room, mostly because she always said she could smell cigarette smoke on the ones he wore to our house.
Bones’ mom was a smoker, but I knew she had never smoked in their apartment. Or at least she didn’t anymore. Estelle’s nose was better than a bloodhound’s.
