Bones, of course, believed every last bit of it. “Lump, if we find the engineer who escaped, we can unlock the app on Stevie’s phone!”

That last part was a detail they had left out of their Captain Kirk caper. I wasn’t even sure I wanted to know, but I asked anyway. “Unlock?”

Stevie jumped in immediately. “LightYear app has secret code. No can use without code. Only engineer know code. Mr. Ching know code . . .” He trailed off, no doubt thinking about his father.

I felt bad for Stevie, but I had to pull Bones aside before this got out of hand. Actually, it already had completely gotten out of hand, but still, I needed to see if Bones had any semblance of sanity left.

I walked Bones into the living room, which was only about ten feet from the kitchen table but probably far enough away for Stevie not to hear us.
