Meanwhile, Sal and Antone were watching the mad dash play out in front of them as if they were watching a good flick at a drive-in movie theater.

Sal turned casually to Antone and said, “Ant, you don’t want me to chase them, do you?”

Antone laughed. “Sally, you couldn’t catch a cow running through the mud. They’re heading straight toward the junkyard. That place has a giant fence around it. They won’t be going anywhere fast.”

Back at the pavement beside the Caddy, Joe scrambled to his feet, keeping one eye on the black car, wondering how long he had before Sal and Antone came after him.

That’s when Antone said to Sal, “Watch this, Sally. I’m gonna open the door real fast and the little, fat one’s gonna go flying.”

Antone swung his door open. As if on cue, Joe jumped in the air, then tried to run around the front of the car, but he caught his leg on the bumper and tumbled head over heels across the pavement.
