I pulled Bones out of the room and ran down the hall to Command Central. The RACK was our only chance of finding out what happened to Stevie. I clicked on the app and hit the “live” button as Bones rolled up in his chair next to me. “Lump, what that laser thing they were carrying?”

I typed in the time and street for the recording and hit play, but the screen went blank. Bones kept talking as I searched. “They just air lifted Stevie right off the street! I can’t believe it, Lump!”

I started to panic. It made no sense that the recording wasn’t there.

“Hold on, Bones! Something’s not right.” I quickly closed the app and reopened the RACK using a different option. A message appeared across the screen that read, “Access Denied.” I had never seen anything like it. Then the phone in the office rang. Only my dad had the number.

I answered with some hesitation. “Hi, Dad. What’s happening?”

“Hey, pal, are you on the Ridgewood system right now?” He didn’t sound angry, just very concerned. “Yeah, but I’m having trouble pulling up something from an hour ago. Everything is blank.”

I was trying again as we spoke when suddenly he got very serious.
