Sweat was dripping down Chief’s face, and his hand that was holding the Foozle was shaking. I didn’t know if that was a good thing or a bad thing. Was he about to go crazy and take us all down, or was he having some sort of existential realization that there was a better way to live his life?
Finally, after what felt like years, Chief lowered the Foozle and handed it to Yogi.
Whew. Chief talked Yogi through how to power Stevie’s phone and the LightYear app using the Foozle, then Yogi slowly raised the Foozle to the Ching Charger, and Stevie’s phone lit up. Yogi handed me the phone and the screen said it was powered at 98 percent. We were ready for transport.
All Bones and I had to do was take a selfie and we’d be home. I couldn’t believe it. This was actually happening. We were going home. I looked at Bones. How was he handling the fact that he was probably going back to a life of cancer?
He had a far-off look in his eye and he said, “But, Yogi, if we leave now, we might never get back to help G.”
Yogi held up his hand. “Don’t worry about that. It’s time for you boys to go.” G whimpered again, but this time it seemed like she was agreeing with Yogi.
I held up Stevie’s phone, ready to take the photo to send us back to the future, when Chief interrupted.
