“They had matching sunglasses? Cool. Hey, you know what, we should go back to the scene. See if we can find something there. Columbo did it all the time.”

“What?! That’s dumb! What if the Suits come back? What would we do, fend them off with the baskets on your bike?” I remember hearing once that criminals like to go back to the scene of the crime. “Who’s Columbo anyway?”

Bones was excited I had asked. “Columbo was a TV detective from the ’70s. He solved crimes just by showing up and acting dumb.”

“Well, that should be easy for you. You won’t even have to act, Bones!” Sometimes the kid tossed me softballs that I just had to smash out of the park. Still, I knew we had to do something other than stare at the blank screen on the RACK. Stevie was gone, and he needed our help.

I couldn’t come up with a better idea than Bones’. “Okay, I’ll go back with you, but I think we should drop our bikes on Mastin Street and walk up a block to the intersection. That way we can sprint in opposite directions if they come back. And we’re going to have to go at night.”

Bones pumped his fist into the air. “Oh yeah! Nighttime, like the color of the Suits!”
