Dr. Yang stepped into the room with the Boss and gingerly opened the control box. On the controls were five transport positions, each indicating 10:00 a.m. ET September 1, 1978. She changed the years for the top two and bottom two to June 8, 1986, leaving only Chief’s position at the original date.
An illuminated green button at the bottom of the control box flashed. Dr. Yang hesitated, then hit the button, walked across the room, and joined the Boss in front of the window. She tried to breathe normally, but it felt like her throat was closing in on itself.
Meanwhile, out on the stage Joe had licked each finger clean of Dorito residue and, at precisely the time Dr. Yang had pressed the green button, he ambled over to where Chief stood on his X.
The intercom crackled to life and the same female voice from the train intoned, “Time travel commences in five . . . four . . .”
Harvey, who stood between Joe and Chief, yelled, “Joe! What are you doing? You’re going to get yourself killed!”
“Relax, Harv, I’m just following orders.” Joe threw his arm around Chief, who was already frozen like a statue. “Look, Harv, it’s a selfie!”
Then FLASH! They were gone.
