“Lump, we time traveled! Can you believe we just traveled…” He started running with his hands out wide like an airplane, making a jet engine noise, “…straight through time!”
I like to think the second time you do something is definitely the coolest, and this was proof positive. It was awesome. My best friend and I had just traveled backward in time. I laughed with Bones because I, too, was in awe.
But Bones had stopped dancing and gone silent. He was now turning in a slow circle. “Hey, Lump. Everything looks completely . . .”
I waited for him to finish his thought, but he didn’t. I looked around. We were definitely standing in front of the Ridgewood train station, exactly where we had parked our bikes four hours ago, but he was right—something was really wrong.
“Different,” I said, finishing Bones’ sentence. “Everything looks completely different.”
