I waited for him to laugh or roll his eyes or even just ignore me, but he didn't. He was looking at me calmly, so I showed him the wrapper. He looked down at it, looked back up at me, and then said, "Order one slice of honey roasted ham."

I threw up my arms. He was obviously having a good time at my expense, and I had bought it hook, line, and sinker. Well, the joke was on him. How ridiculous that a guy the size of a refrigerator was telling me to order one slice of anything! I turned around and just walked away. I was going home.

By the time I got to the subway stairs, I was so frustrated that I yelled out, "Downstairs deli? What downstairs deli? How stupid is that!"

A woman coming up the stairs heard me and said, "Do you mean the one in the Whole Foods?"

I looked at her in confusion. What was she going on about?

She kept talking. "Just go through the entrance to the mall over there. On your right you can take the escalators down to the market. They have a huge deli there, great selections."

So just when I thought I had had enough, I was heading to the market to get a slice of honey roasted ham.
