Now that he was on his way, I called him on my headset. Using his earpiece, Bones clicked into my call. “That was pretty painful, Lump!”

I could tell he was already out of breath. There was nothing like hearing Bones breathe when he rode. He pedaled like it was the last trip he was ever going to take. If he’d had a fancy road bike, he probably would have broken a world record.

“Bones, you OK? I was in pain just watching!” I couldn’t stop laughing.

“You can laugh all you want! I’m bustin’ the record today, Lumpy!” Bones struggled to respond, but he had never let anything get in the way of trying to break a record.

One thing about Bones, I didn’t know anybody tougher than him. The kid just kept going. And he didn’t let anything get him down. Nothing.

At the corner of Van Dien and Linwood, Bones took a hard right over the corner and up onto the curb. He lost complete control and was headed straight into traffic.

“Bank right!” I screamed at him over the headset. From my other monitor, I could see a car coming straight at him. This was just another awesome feature of the RACK. I had two screens and at least four cameras going at once.

Bones took my cue and BNNNNNNN!!! the Range Rover that was about to squash him swerved left and missed him by an inch. I loved mad horn honking just after a near-collision. It made for great TV! And thanks to the audio from Bones’ earpiece, I heard the driver’s reaction, too!

“Get outta the road, idiot!!” The guy in the Range Rover yelled so loud it was like he was on Bones’ bike.
