“Ant, how was I supposed to know these two garbanzo beans were gonna drive themselves into a dead end?”

“Uh, let’s see,” Antone said, tapping his chin with exaggeration. “How about when we saw the ‘Dead End’ sign and they kept going? Maybe that’s when you could’ve figured it out, Grape Ape.”

Back in the orange Caddy, Joe had had enough sitting around and went to open his door, but Chief quickly reached his arm out to block him and shouted, “Joe, don’t go out there! We are not in a position of strength.”

Joe leaned back, surprised. He had never heard Chief say they were in a bad position before. He was always in control of the situation. But even if they were in a bad position, sitting around wasn’t going to solve anything.

Joe popped open his door and said to Chief, “I don’t think that car’s gonna go anywhere if one of us doesn’t step in and do something.” Chief opened his mouth to argue, but Joe stood up and shut the door in his face.
