I turned to face Bones and looked him square in the eye. “You know, you could get sent to the mental hospital instead of the eighth grade if you actually believed all of this crap. Did that radiation stuff fry your brain or something?”

Bones laughed. “This is awesome, Lump. We’ll find the guy who has the code to unlock the LightYear app, and we’ll dial it ahead thirty years or so. We’ll find a cure for cancer and then dial it back just in time for the first day of school.”

Yup, he’d completely lost it.

I looked over at Stevie, who was flipping through his notebook at the kitchen table. I felt bad for him. The poor kid had lost his dad . . . and everything else. Then of course I had to deal with the big buffoon Bones.

He was sick—actually, he was more than sick, he had cancer. And to top it all off, school was starting in nearly a week, which meant summer was coming to an end. So I thought to myself, all this about a time travel app and a code to unlock it . . . insane.

But why not just play along?
