As Bones and I rode back home, I kept looking over at the doofus, waiting for him to say, “I told you so,” but of course he didn’t. He just rode along like nothing had happened, that he hadn’t just saved my life, and Murph’s for sure.
But I had to know how he had known something bad was going to happen.
I cleared my throat. “Er, Bones, after you left, you went to my garage and got one of the Estellicane’s ropes . . . how did you know?”
“I don’t know, Lump.” He shrugged. “It’s hard to describe. I was watching from the top of the hill and everyone looked like they were having a blast, but I just knew something wasn’t right.”
He looked at me with that big, goofy smile of his. “I just had a feeling, Lump. That’s all.”
