Bones was standing right in front of the windshield, still admiring the hood. I was sure he was going to be spotted, or worse, run over. I moved as fast as I could to the car while still trying to act nonchalant. I didn’t want to alarm Bones, or catch the eye of the Suit.

When I got to the hood of the car, I whispered to Bones, “I need you to keep walking right now. Don’t say anything, just look straight ahead and keep walking.”

Immediately, he started walking, trusting me implicitly. It must have been because I had used the same tone of voice I’d had back when we were in the subway station and I had told him that we were about to be kidnapped by the Suits for the second time.

The passenger-side window of the car was rolled down and I heard Chinese words float through the air as Bones and I tried to put as much distance as we could between us and them.

We were about to jump behind a hedge when a police officer walked up to us. It was Officer Reilly, from the bank robbery. It felt like a million years had gone by since then.
