"Hey, where are you going, Bones? We got to at least try getting our spot back."

But Bones shook his head at me—he played by the rules. As soon as he got to the back, the Line Police walked out the door and yelled to the crowd, "Sorry, folks, we're out of phones—the promotion is over!"

I looked at Bones' face. I had never seen him so disappointed. But his disappointment lasted all of five seconds. "Oh well," he said. "At least you didn't go to jail, Lump! I hear the food there isn't catered."

We started walking away toward our bikes when we heard a whistle. We turned around and saw the Line Police waving us over. So we went over to him, and he let us in the door.

Then he walked us right into the back room with all the inventory and pulled out a box, handed it to Bones, and said, "You won."

Bones and I looked at each other, both of us very confused.

The Line Police turned to Bones and said, "You were in the door, you had the chance right in front of you, but you decided to help your friend. I saw what you did. Your friend was in trouble, and you left your place in line, and that was the right thing to do."

Now I got it and thought that was really cool. But Bones was still confused to the point where he asked, "Thanks but…what else was I supposed to do?"
