The homeless guy walked away happy, and just as Bones was looking back down to the app, his phone rang. A picture of his mom appeared on the screen, but before I could warn him not to pick it up, he answered with a big smile.
“Hi, Mom! Yes, I’m here with CJ. We’re in New York City.”
My mouth dropped open, and I said in a harsh whisper, “What?! No, we’re not!” I couldn’t believe he had just given away our location.
He waved me away with his hand and kept talking. “Well, Estelle doesn’t know we’re here, so I guess we’re actually not in the city. We’re in . . .” He paused and looked at me quizzically. “Where are we, Lump?” The big oaf had a giant smile on his face.
“Disney World,” The kid just couldn’t figure out how to hide a secret.
Then he laughed and, of course, said, “Lumpy says we’re at Disney World, but we’ll be home this afternoon.” He listened for a moment. “I’m fine. The medicine isn’t really affecting me at all today . . . Mom, there’s no need to worry. I’m fine . . . Yes, I promise . . . I love you. I’m fine, Mom . . . I will. Adios!”
Bones looked over to me, and said, “My mom says she loves you, too.” He smiled and went back to looking at the Engineer app on his phone.
