chapter 31

goon squad gone

Yogi made dinner that night on a charcoal grill that he had picked out from a lineup of fifteen others in the junkyard.

He flipped a burger in the air and said, “People throw good stuff away and I just fix ’em up and sell ’em. It so easy, boys!”

By the time the burgers were ready, Bones and I were practically salivating all over the table inside the shack. Along with the giant cheeseburgers, Yogi brought out a bag of potato chips, a giant bowl of beans, and a long, thin glass bottle of ketchup. I tried to get some of the ketchup on my burger, but it wouldn’t come out.

“Hey, Yogi, why don’t you buy the squeeze bottles? They’re so much easier.”

“A squeeze bottle?” He laughed loudly. “That’s an oxymoron if I ever heard one!”

When we were only halfway through eating our burgers, Yogi stood up and said, “I’m headin’ over to Couch Hill for a bit, boys. You stay here. I’ve got some stuff to do.”
