From across the yard Yogi hollered, “You boys, OK?”
Silence.
G barked twice. She knew something was wrong.
“Let’s go! That killer dog is coming!” Mazz yelled. He knew something was wrong, too. He turned toward the door, then stopped and said, “Hey, Gordo, look at this! It’s the battery! They left it right here!”
“Hey! That’s not yours,” Bones yelled from under the couch. Gordo and Mazz practically jumped out of their shoes.
Mazz picked up the phone and flipped it to Gordo. “Well, it’s ours now, finders keepers!”
I scrambled out of the chest and watched hopelessly as Gordo and Mazz ran out to join Quiet Cal and their bikes disappeared down the street.
The Goon Squad was gone.
