Bones and I were stunned and looked around to see if anybody else had seen what had happened. There was nobody around at all—no cars, no joggers or dog walkers, nothing. All I knew was that we needed to get out of there now.

Bones had already figured that out a little faster than me and, before I knew it, he was pedaling like mad toward my house. Too bad we didn't start the stopwatch because we both would've set a record.

When I rode up to the top of my driveway, Bones had been waiting for at least a minute. Not much frazzled Bones, but Stevie's kidnapping had clearly freaked him out. "What was that, Lump?!  Did that actually happen?!" I caught my breath just enough to say, "I can't believe they landed right on the street! Bones, they pointed some sort of laser beam at you!"

"I can't believe they just took Stevie away like that. I wonder if those were the same guys that kidnapped his dad."

Then I remembered. "Hang on—what did Stevie give you?"

He looked at me all confused. "Huh? He didn't give anything to me.

"Reach into your left pocket."

Sure enough, he pulled out a folded piece of paper. Bones looked at it and handed it over to me. It was all in Chinese.
