Chief’s eyes widened as Dr. Yang stepped off the platform and returned to the prototype in the middle of the room. Why would she say that? And it’s not like he could ask her to clarify; the Boss would punish them all severely if he heard the Chief asking any sort of questions like that. He needed to think of what to do—and fast.
Dr. Yang stood behind the prototype. “These are your final instructions,” she said somberly. “They are very important, so listen carefully. Once I step away from the LightYear application, there will be a five-second delay, then a giant flash—”
“Bring on the flash!” Joe said, slipping on his sunglasses. Dr. Yang ignored him.
“It will feel warm on your body and the transport will take no more than a few minutes, although it will only feel like a second. Gentlemen, it is critical that you not move once I signal that the prototype is ready. Any movement from your designated area could cause you irreparable harm, including death. When you see the trans- port indication light switch to green, you have five seconds. Please do not move from your designated—”
