CHAPTER 2

Bombs Away

Halfway through the exam, I realized I was way behind. It was mostly because Annie kept getting up and walking around to check on the class.

To add to my distraction, Stevie Ching, who probably could’ve taught the class himself, was messing around with his phone and scribbling in his notebook. According to Bones, the notebook had top-secret information in it. I wasn’t sure how Bones knew it was top secret. I looked at it one day at lunch, and it was mostly in Chinese. Stevie’s phone was even more mysterious. He didn’t let anybody touch it, not even Bones. I’ve seen all kinds of phones but never one like Stevie’s.

Stevie moved to Ridgewood a few months ago and Bones was probably the only kid in our school who was nice to him. Stevie spoke in broken English, and most kids didn’t want to take the time to figure out what he was saying. Of course, Bones was different than everyone else.
