As soon as Yogi nodded, G went flying across the yard. When she got to the phone, she leaped up and knocked it off its hook. The phone dangled from its cord, the perfect height for a dog, and G barked twice into the receiver, then ran back over to us.
Bones was now in full orangutan dance. "She answered the phone! And then I think she said hello!" He froze in mid-dance and looked at Yogi, concerned. "Aren't you going to see who it is?"
"Oh, no," Yogi rumbled good-naturedly. "If they're a customer, they know I'm here. My customers know that if G doesn't answer the phone, then I'm not here." He looked down at G, who was now patiently sitting by his side. "Did you forget something?"
"Oh, were we supposed to hang it up?" Bones said, apparently thinking Yogi was talking to him.
Yogi laughed. "No, not you, thin man!" He looked down again and said calmly, "Hang it up, G."
G sprinted to the dangling phone, then used her snout to flip the phone high into the air, and it landed straight back onto its hook.
Bones clapped and then raised his hands in approval. I told him he was a giant doofus. Bones didn't care, though. He went right back to clapping.
"Stick around, boys!" Yogi said, clearly pleased with his enthusiasticresponse. "Youain't seen nothin' yet!"
