Cal reached over Mazz’s shoulder again and tapped the song “All the Single Ladies” by Beyoncé. The music started playing and Cal hopped up and broke out dancing like he had actually seen the music video. Gordo and Mazz stared, stunned. Suddenly, Cal stopped dead in his groove.
“Whaddya stop for Cal?” Gordo said. “I didn’t know you could bust a move like that!”
“Yeah,” Mazz chimed in. “Where did those tunes come from, that was way hip!” But Quiet Cal just looked past them at the tree fort’s door.
“Cal, what’s wrong? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Mazz said.
Cal slowly raised his hand and pointed at the door. Mazz and Gordo turned, then leapt to their feet and screamed. G was sitting on her haunches, blocking the fort’s exit.
“It’s the killer dog!” Mazz said, clinging to Gordo. “He followed us here from the yard and he wants to kill us!”
G tilted her head at Mazz like he was talking crazy. “She l-l-looks like sh-she w-w-wants something,” Gordo stammered.
“You think it’s the stop sign we took from the yard the night she chased us?” Mazz asked, frantic.
Quiet Cal shook his head, then pointed at Stevie’s phone in Mazz’s hand.
