“No, they’re not,” Chief countered. “We have to limit our interaction with them and find the boys on our own and capture the Ching. We’ll have to figure out how to power the LightYear app once we get a hold of the phone.”

“OK, Chief, no problem,” Joe said, shrugging. “We’ll follow the black car for a few blocks, then lose ’em.” Finally, Joe had a good idea.

“Right,” Chief said, then he started up the car and put it into reverse.

Back in the black car, Antone was proud of himself. “You see, Sally,” he said, gesturing at the orange Caddy. “They’re moving out. It takes just a little bit of patience.”

Both cars slowly reversed, until they could turn around, then Sal pulled in front and led their two-car caravan. Chief followed the black car—a left turn, then a quick right—while Joe plotted their next move.

“Chief, we have to ditch them now or we’ll get to Main Street and we’ll never lose them.”
