Chapter 16

there’s none of that

Bones and I followed Yogi up onto Doc Lopez’s front porch and through the screen door into a big, open foyer. A wooden sign hanging from the ceiling read, “Doc Lopez’s House.”

The screen door slammed shut behind Bones, and everyone in the foyer turned and stared. A woman was sitting behind a big desk, talking on a giant, black phone attached to a long, black, swirling cord. She stood up and waved at Yogi, then put up her index finger and mouthed, “One minute.”

On a bright, orange couch sat a kid who looked about our age and he was drawing on a big piece of paper. The couch looked exactly like the one that Bones and I had crashed into while attempting to jump Sofa Mountain on the Basket Barge.

Everything in the room was bright and colorful. The walls were covered in drawings, and artwork hung from the ceiling. On the wall was a sign that had been written in a child’s hand and it said, “Lindy’s Healing Arts.”

Bones and I were standing behind Yogi, waiting for the woman to get off the phone, when G barked through the screen door.
