The team started walking toward the transport, but Chief hesitated. He had always trusted his gut, and his gut was telling him that something was very wrong. He was the leader of their team, and it was his duty to carry out the mission at hand and bring his men back safely, but he had a feeling this mission wasn’t going to end well. If anything went wrong, they’d be done. The Boss assured them of that.
Chief hurried to catch up with the group. He couldn’t let the Boss see he was concerned. That would only make things worse.
With the group gathered around the transport train, the Boss said coldly, “Had you captured the Ching in the park, we wouldn’t be chasing the Tomato and the Cornstalk.”
The Boss spun around and walked through the train doors, and the Suits followed. Harvey elbowed Freddy and whispered, “I came up with those nicknames.”
“You did not,” Stan hissed from behind them. “I made up those names, at that girl’s house—Annie something—remember?”
“Shut up, all of you,” Chief said, towering over them. He had enough to worry about without having to deal with their bickering.
